Pin, mute, or remove Hangouts Meet participants
Select a participant from the filmstrip to mute, pin, or remove the person.
Note: For education accounts, only the meeting creator, calendar event owner, or person who sets up a meeting on an in-room hardware device can mute or remove video meeting participants.
Pin a participant
Click Pin in a participant's thumbnail image to pin them to the top of the list.
Remove a participant
A participant from the domain that organized the video meeting can remove another participant, if necessary.
In a video meeting, click the Back arrow , hover over the person, and click Remove .
Mute a participant's microphone
If you’re experiencing feedback or background noise during a video meeting, you might want to mute other people’s microphones.
To mute other people, next to the person’s thumbnail, hover over their volume icon and click Mute . Or follow the steps to remove and click Mute instead of Remove
Note: Every participant over 5 is automatically muted upon joining.
- For privacy reasons, you cannot unmute another person. Ask the participant to unmute their audio.
- To mute or unmute yourself, at the bottom of the video window click Mute .
- Phone participants can press *6 to unmute their phone.
- Any participant can be muted, including people who dial-in using a phone.
Send chat messages to video meeting participants
You can send messages during a meeting to the other video call guests from a computer or mobile device.
- Messages are visible to everyone in the call.
- You can only see the chat messages exchanged when you are in the meeting. Messages sent before you joined are not displayed, and all messages disappear when you leave the meeting.
- Join a Meet video call.
- Click Chat (upper right corner).
- Enter a text message and click the Send icon.
Present during a video meeting
You can present your entire screen or a specific window in a meeting to share documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and more.
- In the bottom-right corner, select Present now.
- Select Your entire screen or A window.
- Select Share. Note: If your camera is turned on, participants continue to see your video while you're presenting.
To stop presenting
- In the Meet window, click Stop Presenting.
- In the bottom-right corner, you can also click You are presenting Stop presenting.
